The curriculum in Petrology, Geochemistry and Geophysics is devoted to the development of the following topics:

  • Petrogenesis of magmas

  • Petrological, geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of the Earth Mantle

  • Relationships between magma sources, geodynamic settings and volcanism

These investigations are based on state-of the art and advanced techniques for major, trace, isotope analyses and microanalyses carried out in national and international Research Centres. This curriculum also deals with several applied research lines, such as:

  • physical – chemical characterization of geological materials (i.e: decorative and construction stones, ceramics, industrial minerals, glasses, etc..);
  • petroarchaeometrical study and damage evaluation of cultural heritage materials (i.e: masonry, building stones, etc..);

  • geochemical and geophysical study of environmental problems (i. g.: contaminants diffusion in soil, water pollution, waste disposal, etc..)
