Agreement with CERN for doctoral programs
An agreement for the participation of PhD students from Ferrara University in the CERN doctoral program was signed in Geneva on June 6 by the Chancellor of the University Patrizio Bianchi and by the CERN Director General Robert Aymar, in the presence of representatives form the Italian Ministery of University and Research and from the Italian Ministery for foreign Affairs.
Doctoral students in Engineering, IT, applied Physics and applied Mathematics, selected by CERN and by the University, will be able to spend two years at CERN for their thesis work, with special fellowships jointly financed by CERN and by the University of Ferrara.
Under the supervision of researchers from CERN and from the University, they will be engaged in the CERN research and development projects, working within a high technology and international environment.
The agreement, the first of this kind between CERN and an university, testifies the interest of CERN in forming the new generation of scientists and engineers for the members states and provides the best students of Ferrara University with a special window towards Europe and the world.
