Doctoral Program in Physics

The Doctoral Program in Physics is under the auspices of the Department of Physics.
The coordinator of the doctorate is Vincenzo Guidi.
Several research themes are developed within this doctorate.
The program of study is composed of the following curricula:
- Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics
- Theoretical and Computational Physics
- Nuclear Technologies for health (Health's physics, Laboratory of Medical Physics), environment and cultural goods
- Structure of Matter and quantum optics (Magnetic materials, Laboratory of semiconductors and sensors)
- Astrophysics (International program)
- Atmospherical Physics (ISAC), and meteorology and climate
- Astroparticle Physics (international program) and cosmology
- Acoustics and Interdisciplinary researches
- Micro- and nano-technologies
- New technologies in energy production
Each year, the faculty decides the academic coursework expressly created for the doctorate program and that taken from other courses of study.
The annual plan for the academic activity of each graduate student, proposed by the student and his or her advisor at the beginning of each year, is verified at the end of the year by the faculty during the colloquium that decides admission to the following year or to the final exam.
The doctoral program takes part in the collaboration agreement with CERN. Furthermore, an agreement with ESAC is available.
Credits have to be subdivided according to the regulations of the pertaining Macro-Area. Students of the first year will acquire 10 credits in interdisciplinary activities, 6 credits in macro-area activities and 44 credits within disciplinar activities.
