XXX and XXXI cycles PhD students have to attend to the interdisciplinary activities organised by IUSS-Ferrara 1391, and a minimum of 20 credits must be obtained in the firs two years of doctoral Courses.
The activities gives 5 credits each:

More information:
- Italian Course for foreigners organised by the Unife Linguistic Center. Courses are divided into five levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1), according to the parameters set down by the Common European Framework of Reference. Courses will be held in Spring and Autumn. PhD students that follow the course for the first time are admitted without tuition fees. Check the calendar on the CLA Website. Look at the news to be updated!
- 3D Printing. The course comprehend a base and a specialist lesson, for the different areas. Look at the brochure for Humanities and Scientific doctoral courses, and the one for bio-medical PhD Courses (Svisa school).
- IUSS Conversation. Cycle of seminars about "Islamic Culture and Institutions", Prof. Deborah Scolart and Giuseppe Scandurra. Brochure. Italian language only.
- English Course (April-June), Placement test at the end of March, course in April-June.
- ESOL Cambridge Certifications, between October and November.
IUSS organizes 5 lessons of preparation for all the PhD students interested in the Exams. Lesson will be done from the end of September till the end of October, once day a week (generally 3-5 p.m).
